Student Resources

ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø School of Architecture students have access to the facilities they need to create, learn, and excel in their studies. Whether a student needs to build a model, print a master plan, or prepare a final project for review, the school or the College of Art & Design has a resource in place to help. The Design Shop, a traditional wood-working studio where students have access to state-of-the-art digital fabrication equipment including a 3D printer, laser cutter, and CNC mill, is located next door to Atkinson Hall in the Art Building. Students can rent photography and lighting equipment and access more 3D printers and a 3D scanner while learning effective communication skills specific to the discipline of architecture at the Communication across the Curriculum (CxC) Art & Design Studio. The VizLab offers large-scale printing, scanning, and other computer services as well as specialty software.

Students seeking academic advice can meet with counselors in the Office of Student Services, located in the heart of the college on the second floor of the Design Building. A counselor is always on hand to help students meet important dates and deadlines and to guide students toward available internships and jobs that will hone their skills and provide them with the experience they need to pursue their careers.

ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Financial Aid & Scholarships is committed to working with students and parents by providing student aid through grants, loans, work study programs, and scholarships. ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø helps make it possible for qualified students with limited personal financial resources to meet the cost of a School of Art education. Beyond the studio, networking opportunities with fellow students, faculty, alumni, and professionals abound through the School of Architecture’s student organizations. Students have a variety of study abroad opportunities including the Design Paris semester-long program. Students who desire to study a bit closer to home can participate in the exchange program at the Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center at Virginia Tech.

The School of Architecture works closely with the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Coastal Ecosystem Design Studio, where students and faculty studying architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, and coastal sciences conduct multidisciplinary research and work on trans-disciplinary design projects to address issues pertaining to the school’s unique location in the lower Mississippi Delta region of the Gulf South.
