About

Cultural resources are one of Louisiana’s top engines of economic development. At ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø’s College of Art & Design, we are training the next generation of cultural stewards for leadership roles at local, regional, and international levels.

The ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø College of Art & Design’s Doctor of Design (DDes) focuses on the study, preservation, and enhancement of cultural resources. Numerous studies indicate that a region’s cultural heritage enhances the quality of life for its residents and can be an important engine of economic activity. In addition, cultural heritage enlightens our understanding of the past and informs our approaches to the future. We believe that the stewardship of cultural heritage is important because it involves the preservation and continuity of multi-cultural traditions and ways of life that define who we are and what we value.

Within the context of Louisiana’s rich and evolving cultural communities, the multidisciplinary DDes degree prepares professionals to meet the increasing demands for advanced training and experimentation in the management, preservation, interpretation, and application of cultural heritage. With this advanced academic degree, DDes graduates will fill leadership positions in professional and academic fields related to the cultural economy and thereby make significant contributions to the advancement of cultural preservation wherever they practice.
