We are seeking a talented Airport Architect to join our Planning, Design, and Construction Department at New Orleans International Airport. In this position, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our airport facilities, ensuring they are aesthetically appealing, efficient, safe, and passenger-centric.
Kind of Work:
Responsible for professional architectural work in the development, design, construction, alteration, and repair of Airport facilities; and related work as required.
Distinguishing Features of Work
Work involves the responsibility for the application of architectural knowledge in the design and review of architectural plans for proposed buildings and the technical supervision of construction projects to ensure effective and efficient completion.
Work involves reviewing, appraising, and approving construction plans and designs. Work is performed with considerable independence of action, however, advice and consultation are available from an administrative superior, who gives general direction to work performed. Supervision may be exercised over a staff of clerical and technical personnel.

Project manages programming, architectural space planning, design and construction projects
Discusses and develops proposed building projects with the Department head of Planning Development and Construction; assists them in planning and design improvements, alterations, and repairs.
Reviews and prepares preliminary plans, specifications, and designs of buildings and heating, lighting, refrigeration, water supply, mechanical, and electrical systems, and prepares preliminary cost estimates.
Examines plans and specifications of buildings prepared by contractors and advises on changes as necessary.
Assists departments in the preparation of capital project requests.
Provides architectural consultation for construction done by in-house or contracted personnel.
Prepares bidding documents and obtains construction bids as needed.
Assists in negotiations of the design or construction contracts and scopes of work.
Assists in implementing the Tennant Improvement Program (TIP).
Prepares preliminary costs estimates related to design of construction projects.
Assigns and reviews the work of subordinate technical and non-technical personnel.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to successfully perform project management tasks including the proactive management during project initiation, planning, implementation, and closeout
Knowledge of the principles and practices, methods and techniques of architecture or building design knowledge of materials used in the inspection and examination of construction materials and in determining deviations from plans and standard construction techniques.
Knowledge of modern methods and techniques of building construction and maintenance.
Knowledge of building construction materials.
Familiarity with building code, zoning ordinance, and related ordinances of the city.
Skill in the drawing of complete architectural plans and in making difficult and involved technical computations.
Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints, plans, and specifications and to advise builders on proper methods in meeting regulations.
Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with builders, contractors, and the general public.
Ability to use computer-aided design in planning building projects.
Ability to visually communicate architectural ideas.
Understanding of design software such as Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Bluebeam, Adobe, and Building Information Modeling (BIM), etc.
Proficiency in CAD highly desirable
Minimum Qualifications:
1) A Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from an accredited college or university.*
2) A license to practice architecture in the State of Louisiana.*
NOTE: Out-of-state licenses are acceptable. However, if appointed, the employee must obtain a license to practice architecture in the State of Louisiana during the probationary period. No probationary period may last longer than one (1) year.
The hiring rate will be contingent upon an assessment of the candidate’s superior qualifications as determined by a matrix of experience, education, licensing, special skills, and achievements.

Kind of Exam:
A qualifying review of education and license, weighted 100%.
This is a non-competitive original entrance examination by Rule V, Section 8.1 (b) of the City Civil Service Rules.
Compensation/Benefits:
This is a classified civil service position.
Salary range: Salary for this position is $81,999 to $88,344 annually depending on experience, plus an additional 5% for Airport employees residing in the City of New Orleans. Other benefits include a Pension, Health Insurance (hospitalization, prescription coverage, vision, dental) for you and your family, 15 paid holidays, longevity pay, merit pay, free life insurance, sick leave, paid vacation, and free employee parking.
